Ireland-Dingle Peninsula, Cliff of Moher

Waking up to the first light instead of my alarm felt serene and peaceful. Slowly cooking my breakfast and sipping my coffee, I found myself amongst the ancient beehive-shaped huts similar to the ones on Skellig Michael. The road signs were clear, and the roads were not busy. I could not have picked a better spot to travel without any modern technology(recall last post, my phone was completely dead due to the rain). There is no rush of car, no bustling of the people, only the occasional sheep traffic and calling of the shepherds.

As I slowly drove down the narrow Irish roads, I feasted my eyes upon the sceneries. Pit spots were a must not for my cameras but for my mind to truly absorb the atmosphere. Dingle peninsula truly has everything: the first Christian churches like Gallarus Oratory, the curious Beehive huts, the jagged cliffs of Star Wars, and the sleepy hills of Saint Brendan all made County Kerry the charming place that it is right now.

If you really don’t fancy driving the narrow roads, “the Dingle Way” or “the Kerry Way” are just some of the multiday hikes you can embark on that takes you to the most breath-taking places around the island. Suppose you want to experience what the pilgrim would have done centuries ago. In that case, you can also walk the old pilgrim ways built around the peninsula, which will take you to the Gallarus Oratory and the Kilmalkedar.

As much as I want to keep going without the convenience of my phone, I will need to let my family know that I am alive and take some pictures at least. The locals were kind to lead me to the exact right place. An elderly lady from a wool store in Dingle gave me the exact direction I needed to get to Tralee, and the taxi driver in Tralee led me to the mall where I could find electronic stores. Just like everyone had said, Irish people are some of the nicest folks in the world.

With my phone in my hand, time to head to the Instagram capital of Ireland – Cliff of Moher.

Cliff of Moher is one of the finest examples of the tall Irish cliffs shaped by the roaring Atlantic Sea. This portion of the cliff looks like the perfect cut layered cake

I camped nearby and headed to the cliff again early in the morning. I have to say, enjoying morning coffee by the Wild Atlantic Way is genuinely one of the best ways to wake up.

Not just the awe-inspiring cliffs, the Wild Atlantic Highway also passes some of the most historic parts of Western Ireland. Polnabrone Dolmen in the Burren is one of the finest Neolithic portal tomb examples. Around 33 remains were excavated from the site sitting on top of a mound. Thanks to the limited tourism structure built around the site, you can really feel the spiritual ambiance of the Dolmen.

The plan after Dolmen was to stay in Galway for two nights to enjoy the local cuisine. Local knowledge pulled through again. I scored a cheap ticket that can fly me to Inis Mor, the biggest of the Aran Islands. I am beyond excited.
