2nd day Nepal — More Dal Bhat

Before meeting with rest of my team, (who will have the pleasure of putting up with me for the next 2-3 weeks) I went ahead and did some sightseeing. Monkey temple, Durbar Square, and the Garden of Dreams (or dating couples) were on my list of sites to see for the day.

Enthusiastic worshippers at the Monkey Temple, and some mean monkey eating a poor worshipper’s sweets.

A Hindu wedding was going on at the same time.

Garden of dreams seems to be popular with tourists and locals alike, especially Nepalese young dating couples. Our trekking and climbing guide Nigma said this is where he did many of his dates back when he was very young….

That night we sampled the Dal Bhat again, this time the royal version. Dal Bhat traditionally always contain Dal, the lentil soup, and steam rice (Bhat). This royal version included some delicious extras: chicken masala, chicken tikka, wilted spinach, pickles, salad, papad, and a special curd. if you think the portions look small, do not worry as all Dal Bhat dishes have unlimited refill policy!

We ended the night with some traditional Nepalese dance from different ethnic groups.
