Climbing in Cusco

Have you wondered what is it like to stand on top of those mountains towering above the Inca trails? Much to your surprise, you can actually climb these Peaks with relatively little skills. Most famous for scenic Inca trails and the mysterious Macchu Picchu, Cusco also has the potential to become a climbing Mecca. Surrounded by the Vilcabamba, Vilcanota, and the mountains of Urubamba, there are lots to choose from with the right guides. Nate Heald with the Sky High Andes can certainly help you get to the top. With a combination of American and local guides, you can explore mountains with any level of difficulty. From alpine style to “comfy camp” style, Nate has it all.

I had the chance to explore Pumahuanca, Cerro Soray, and Campa. Each came with its own unique views. This was also a chance to allow me to visit some of the places that I did not have a chance to go to last time; places such as the 7 Lagoons.

The peaks

Another aspect that makes Cusco an excellent climbing “base camp,” is that you can easily eat well and healthily. The selection of food and relatively higher quality of hygiene means that you can effectively fuel up between the climbs.

Plus, you simply have lots to do in Cusco even for the second timers.

Special thanks to Nate Heald for organizing my climbs!
